Hello all! I've got a couple of new things to tell you about, the first being that the seeds I planted a little while back are sprouting! I'm super excited about this! All 10 starter pots of tomatoes, my dill, basil and cilantro have tiny little seedlings...another week or two and they should be ready to transplant into the garden. The only things that haven't sprouted yet are my peppers (hot, not sweet or bell peppers). I also have some peas, cucumber and carrots to plant still, but they'll go directly in the ground when I transplant the seedlings. The corn will have to wait a bit, as it's not quite time for them to be planted. Also, the sunflowers that little man planted last week have begun to sprout as well! He just loves coming out to water them daily, though I think there are a couple that might not come up because he got a little overzealous with the watering can lol. Once they're a little bigger they will be transplanted too and when they're fully grown, we should have a pretty good supply of sunflower seeds to munch on and to plant next year.
Another new thing around here is that I've discovered the wonders of coconut oil! I had seen several things online about it's many (MANY) uses, so out of curiosity I purchased a jar of it last time I was at the store. It's amazing! The first thing I used it for was as a lotion...my skin was super dry, so I spooned a little bit out of the jar and it melted right into my skin, making it the softest it's ever been. And my skin stayed soft for 2-3 days without having to reapply any more coconut oil! So then, to make things a bit easier next time, I got out my old hand mixer and whipped some more coconut oil to make it a little less solid at room temperature. I also added a few drops of Vitamin E oil as an added skin softener. I had enough to fill two medium sized baby food containers, plus quite a bit extra. With the extra mixture, I added in equal parts of cornstarch and baking soda to make a paste, which can be used as an all-natural deodorant. I had enough of the deodorant to fill two more medium sized baby food jars. I've been using the deodorant for a few days now and it seems to be working quite well...it's actually working better than the store-bought natural deodorant that I've been using for about a year now, and it's SO much cheaper! Plus, I know exactly what's in it and there's no mad dash to the store when it runs out. It does go on a bit grainy sometimes, but not enough to really bother me, and it melts right into the skin, so there's not that weird film that you sometimes get with commercial deodorants. I've also used coconut oil to help with my daughter's recent diaper rash. It worked beautifully! Cleared it up in less than a day and it's cloth diaper safe...it just washes right out! In case you're wondering, my parents watched the kids for us the other night while hubby and I went out for a date night, and she was in disposables while we were gone. Her skin's so used to the cloth diapers that on the rare occasions she's in disposables for an extended period of time (like when other people babysit) her skin gets very red and irritated from the paper/plastic and the chemicals in them. But the coconut oil cleared it right up! These are just some of the many uses for coconut oil, basically only the ones I've tried out so far, but there are SO many more uses! A simple internet search for coconut oil uses will give you a ton more, which I intend to try, but for now even with just the ones I've tried, I can definitely say that I'm a convert to the magic that is coconut oil! Well, I guess that's about all for now...until next time!
